One Color Decor Challenge – Luxury Black & Gold Piano Room

Recently, I have been really getting into renovating Townie lots.  So, I figured it was the Goth household’s turn.  I looked around the lot, saw the upstairs piano room and hallway, and thought… THIS IS THE ROOM.  So today, I have a completed One Color Decor Challenge… (well, kinda one color): A luxury black and gold piano room!  With the Goth’s theme being gothic, black and gold were good choices.  The Goths are a bit fancy for Townie Sims, so I wanted to make sure to keep that going as well.

The Colors – Black and Gold

Selecting colors was a little trickier than you would think for this luxury piano room.  I started by looking at trending colors.  A lot of these colors were vibrant and very lovely, but they did not fit the Goth household aesthetic.  So, I originally paired the wood from the home with a trendy loud and light cranberry.  The wood and this tone looked great, but the room was a bit too big for that brightness for me, and the piano I wanted to use did not match.  So, I placed the piano down and worked with it from there.  After several different colors, I said why not just use the piano’s colors… and here we are, black and gold.

The Plan – The Goth’s Piano Room

So, as I was looking at the household, I noticed that Mortimer was no longer a part of the family… Apparently, he tragically died… he was eaten by a cow plant.  Bella, Cassandra, and Alexander still had the sad moodlet, so I decided to decorate the room to tell a story.  I always liked playing Mortimer. He was always a good, easy-going Sim, dedicated to his family.  It was rather sad as whenever I played the Goths, Cassandra or Bella began to play the piano, Mortimer would always be there to listen.  So the room is a tribute to my game save 7, Mortimer.

The Before

The Goth household has an aesthetic look, so I wanted to preserve this as much as possible.  The space serves two purposes: the piano room area and a hallway for the upstairs.  So, it does need to remain functional and open for the most part.

There was little in this room: piano, lights, curtains, a divider, a clock, and a side table with light decor, so I wanted to fill it up more.  Enough where it looks lived in and not just a walk-through space.

The After

My goal here was to make a place to pay tribute to Mortimer, and he was so fancy for a Townie Sim that I wanted to turn up the glam and luxury vibes a bit.  Maroon is a nice color for a gothic aesthetic, but gold is much fancier!

I love this gold and black paint.  It definitely does the job of bringing dark luxury to the room.  I struggled with the floor; I did not want it too dark, and the Goth house had a lot of wood, so I wanted it to match a bit.  I also left the ceiling white to bounce the light around.  Even in my own home I leave ceilings white in my darker rooms.  To me, this also makes the rooms look bigger.

CC Highlights – Piano, Chandelier, Chairs, rug, & hanging plant

Obviously, the piano was the main focal point of this room, so it had to look grand! (joke there, haha) Anyways… I also wanted a lovely chandelier to brighten the room and some side seating to watch and listen while someone played the piano.  Or at least in theory, as my sims always stand!

Featured CC – Wall art 1, lamps, dragon fly, wall art 2, rug, & statue

I know you all like your clutter, but I wanted to keep this area a bit cleaner, as it is a hallway.  Also, I did not add as many portraits and wall art as the wall paint has a design, so I did not want it to be too much.  I love that large painting and its placement; it is perfect!

Featured CC – Candles, flowers, urn, floor plant, wall plant & window art

I even decorated the piano with candles, flowers, a photo, and an urn. To me the details like this just tell a story, and in this case, it was the tragic loss of Mortimer.   Cowplants can be a nasty business.  Strangely I do not recall seeing one ever in this gamesave. So the loss was quite a surprise.

I just realized the irony: Mortimer dies via plant, and I fill my room with…. plants.  In my defense, the one that got Mortimer was a carnivorous plant.  These plants are all harmless.  The plant pile or wall has become a signature part of my designs now.  I find an unused space and just move ALL the plants that will fit right there! And POOF, no more oddly empty space!

Final Result

CC Highlights – table, tablecloth, Roses, crystals

I am thrilled with the results of this room!  I am pleased with how everything came out and absolutely love the piano placement and decor.  The only thing I wish I would have spent more time on would have been finding curtains to fit the window art.  But I also see this luxury black and gold piano room as a success! Mortimer would have loved it here.
