On December 7th, the much anticipated For Rent Expansion Pack was released. This expansion allows Sims to own and manage a rental property where multiple households can live. Obviously, this means lots of gameplay and drama between Sims! I am super excited about this pack and have been for a while. I have always wanted manageable rental properties in The Sims, and now we have them! But before I go off on a tangent, we are looking specifically at the Create a Sim, Build, and Buy items in the For Rent Expansion Pack.
Create A Sim (CAS) Items
With For Rent being a full expansion pack, there is A LOT of content. There is so much in Create a Sim that I do not have room to show it all, so here are some highlights to show the variety in this pack.
T-Elder – Female
There are a ton of pastels and neutral tones in this pack. Throughout all the outfits… I hate to say this, but I like the dark and light pink shades.
Infants – Child
I was thrilled to see items for all ages of Sims, including infants, in the For Rent Expansion Pack.
T-Elder – Male
There is a large variety in this pack when it comes to content. I really like the pink and purple tones still. My fave masculine style is the fourth style from the left. It just matches all so well.
Makeup
There is no additional makeup in this pack. I am okay with this, as I much prefer CC makeup, and there is a ton of other stuff.
Accessories
I LOVE these earrings! They are so different from the other pieces we currently have from EA. This layered necklace is also a lovely addition!
Hairstyles – Feminine
With hairstyles, in each pack, there is more and more detail. I will be using some of these hairstyles in my game!
Hairstyles – Masculine
Of these pictures, I like the fade with a part to the side; it is very nice!
Early Purchase Incentive
Speaking of items, If you purchase this expansion pack before January 18th, you get three additional items. These items include a street umbrella, a grill cart, and a fruit basket. All of these items are themed to fit the new content of the Night Market in the new world of Tomarang.
Build
With a new lot type, it is expected to have new building items to build with. There are doors, windows, chimneys, roofs, beams, floors, walls, and more! So, let’s check them out!
Walls & Floors
The one-piece I saw right away was the new wood floor. Which is a lovely basic wood floor that can easily be in every room. There are several new wall paints as well, and they have a variety of patterns. The theme for this pack seems to be a mix of wood, pastel, and floral patterns.
Roofs
There are a couple different roofs and roof elements. I like the added details Simmers can place on their lots to create unique designs.
Fencing, Columns, and Gates
I am really pleased with all the new fences and gates. I enjoy the landscaping of the building more than the inside decorating, so more fences and gates work well for me. These elements have vibrant colors and many details, so I am pretty happy!
Doors and Windows
For even an expansion pack, there is quite a bit here. This includes doors and windows! I like how there are different size windows in a set. I am not a fan of a lot of the doors. But they have their purpose for run-down builds or more on the grunge side.
Other Items
I don’t know how I feel about all the grunge items. I like things a bit cleaner, but I guess it makes sense. There is even an air-conditioning unit! I like the new balcony pieces and awnings, which match a unique roof texture!
Buy
With the focus of the For Rent Expansion Pack being property rental and management, there are a lot of build items.
Furniture
The pack seems to have a Southeast Asian theme in the designs. This theme is pretty consistent, and I love it! Everything just matches so much better this way. I love the wood and whicker-like details in the furniture.
With the For Rent Expansion Pack, your Sims also get a new kitchen! Complete kitchen items: counter, cabinets, mini fridge, new appliances, dishwasher, and more!
Appliances/Plumbing
Functional and non-functional appliance items such as water heaters and fuse boxes exist. The player can select if they wish to participate in the environment part of the gameplay.
One of the biggest things in this section is the sinks! You can now set the sink to the kitchen or bathroom! No more dishes in the bathroom!
Decor
There is quite a variety in decor: rugs, curtains, grunge wall decor, wall art, shelves, wood carvings, decorative kitchenware, clutter, and more. Out of the decor items, I like the decorative dishes and shelves with clutter, but I absolutely adore the elephant tea kettle.
The grunge wall art does not lock the space, meaning they are stackable, so you have a lot of options.
Lighting
The For Rent Expansion Pack has several new lighting options, one being a whicker fish set. The lighting items are much like the furniture with a Southeast Asian design.
Plants/Outdoors
Usually, the plants are my favorite object. However, the Spirit House has got to be my favorite object in this pack. It is so well done, and I love it! I also adore the Hopscotch courses.
Night Market
With the addition of the Night Market, there are obviously going to be items for this new activity. With the For Rent Expansion Pack, there are quite a few stalls, signs, lights, tents, and other street and market decor.
Summary
The one thing that really stuck with me when reviewing this pack was how many of the items fit solidly into a theme within the pack. For example, windows, doors, columns, fences, gates, and doors match perfectly. That is one thing that always gets me and why I download so much CC… if I am building a house, I want the windows and build features to match. Generally, when you buy windows in real life, you get them all matching… so it always annoys me when I have nonmatching building elements.
