One Color Décor Challenge – Yellow Toddler Bedroom

Welcome to another One Color Décor Challenge; I will attempt to make a Yellow Toddler Bedroom today.  The overall goal is a spring-colored modern styled toddler’s bedroom in this challenge.   I have not done a bedroom yet, so I figured that was a good starting place.   Since it’s Spring here in the United States, I wanted a spring color and a challenge, so yellow was selected for this blog.  What is the worst that could happen? There is so much CC here at The Sims Resource it will be just fine!

The Plan

The overall plan with this room was to make a roomy toddler bedroom full of yellow objects with a clean, modern aesthetic.  I selected yellow because it is spring, and I quickly learned to regret that, as it is not my favorite color.  However, a challenge is a challenge, so I rolled with it!  Once I start a challenge, I just can’t quit; I am just not a quitter, no matter how difficult the task is.  Fortunately, the artists here at the Sims Resource even have loads of yellow furniture suitable for toddlers.  There are loads of sets that come in yellow shades. However, I didn’t just want to use a complete set because that is cheating! Not to mention mixing and matching is much more of a challenge!

The Color Yellow

I selected the color yellow for the challenge.  I found the One Color CAS Challenge – Daffodil Yellow that I did a while back quite tricky but fun. With this room, I wanted to try more yellow, but this time by designing a room.  Since the goal was to do a toddler room, I wanted a pleasant light color that included spring in the room.  Yellow is a perfect spring color because of the flowers and sunshine.  I thought the objects I found in the CC color swatches were super springy but not overwhelming in color, making these shades of yellow perfect for a bedroom.

Building Items

I wanted to select a more neutral color for the wall coverings and floor, as bright yellow would be too much for a toddler’s room.  So I set a friendly, muted light tone that looks like a pretty mustard.  Surprisingly, it matched that rug almost one hundred percent perfectly, which was a totally happy coincidence.  I wanted a lot of natural light, so I again selected more enormous open windows. But with the thought of still keeping everything toddler safe!

Main furniture

I need specific furniture in designing a toddler bedroom, and  I wanted to have at least a place to put toys, a chair, a bookshelf, and a bed for this room.  White and yellow also pair well, and I did not want to use too much yellow, so I selected white; The Sims Resource has loads of white furniture pieces, making the room look so clean.

The white furniture pairs well with the trim in this room and the white dots in the curtains.  I know it’s not a ton of yellow, but I believe it is plenty.  Sometimes with brighter colors, I see it as better to do less because these shades stand out; I find this to be very true with yellow.  I did not want to make the colors overwhelming for this room, so I am satisfied with the balance between the white and yellow colors.

Décor & Clutter

When doing these challenges, I make my room designs as realistically friendly and functional as possible.  This room for a toddler needs toys, books, and other cute décor and clutter items that are toddler friendly.  When my child was young, I did not have much clutter around, just more to clean up and worry about with a toddler.

This is the cleanest toddler room I have ever seen!  We will just say it is brand new, and they are moving in.  I tried to keep my child’s room clean at that age, and it only lasted when he was sleeping, eating, or out of the house! LOL

Final Results

Although this is a toddler room, I wanted the space to remain stylish and modern.  I did not really do a standard nursery for my child.  He had a lot of abstract custom art from his father on the walls, and we kept the walls a lovely light pastel and the room clutter-free.

From my years of studying psychology, I know many studies look at the clutter, colors, and wall presentation in rooms and classrooms.  From my understanding of the research, bright colors and many decorations may overwhelm the senses.  Of course, it varies and ranges from person to person based on aesthetic taste, but this is the general findings of many studies.

Summary

I am pleased with how this room turned out.  Looking at the room after completion, I see a few areas of improvement in this Yellow Toddler Bedroom.  First, I would have wanted to add more toys and maybe an art station.  I know but Jezi, why!! The room is so clean… it does not feel realistic.  In a real sense, it feels more like a grandparent’s house with a space for the grandchild, so I can justify it in that manner.  And yes, I also wish I had added pillows to the rocking chair.  Aside from those areas of improvement, I am pleased with how this Yellow Toddler Bedroom turned out, and I call it a success.
