EA may have quietly introduced a new type of Sims 4 Kit.
On August 18, EA announced two new collaborations based on Mean Girls and Clueless. Both arrive on August 27, 2026.
However, these releases look slightly different from the Kits we already know.
EA calls them Capsule Kits, prices them at just $3.99 each, and gives each one a smaller mix of Create a Sim and Build/Buy content.
So, is this becoming a new Sims 4 DLC format?

What Is a Sims 4 Capsule Kit?
The new Mean Girls and Clueless releases focus heavily on fashion.
Each Capsule Kit contains 13 Create a Sim items and two decorative Build/Buy objects.
EA’s Community Manager confirmed those numbers alongside the announcement on the official EA Forums.

The Mean Girls pack brings Y2K outfits inspired by Regina George and The Plastics.
Meanwhile, Clueless focuses on ’90s fashion inspired by Cher, Dionne and Tai.
Both packs cost $3.99.
That price is where things become especially interesting.
Capsule Kits Are Cheaper Than Normal Kits
A standard Sims 4 Kit currently costs $4.99.
For example, EA launched the Music Den Kit for $4.99 in July. It contains 27 Build/Buy items.

Some licensed Kits cost even more.
EA currently charges $6.99 for its Bridgerton Kits and its licensed SpongeBob releases.
You can see those prices directly in EA’s current Sims 4 Kit catalogue.
That makes the new $3.99 price unusual.
It also suggests EA may see Capsule Kits as something smaller than a traditional Kit.
We Have Already Seen EA Experiment With “Capsules”
The word Capsule itself isn’t completely new.
In July, EA released the free Coach RePurposed Capsule through The Sims 4 Marketplace.
That collection added branded Create a Sim clothing based on Coach designs.
However, EA did not sell that release as a Kit. Players could download it for free through Marketplace for a limited time.
The Mean Girls and Clueless releases are different.
EA is now combining the Capsule name with the established Kit format and charging $3.99 for each one.
That’s why the new terminology stands out.
Is This Officially a New DLC Tier?
Not yet.
EA has not announced a permanent new category called Capsule Kits.
It also hasn’t said that more $3.99 releases will follow.
For now, we only know that EA is using the Capsule Kit name for these two licensed releases.
So, it would be too early to say that Sims 4 DLC now has an official new tier.
However, the combination of a new name, smaller item count and lower price makes the experiment hard to ignore.
Could We See More Capsule Kits?
That may depend on how well these first two perform.
Smaller themed collections could give EA another way to release collaborations without creating a full $4.99 or $6.99 Kit.
They could also work well for fashion brands, films and other licensed partnerships.
For now, the Sims 4 Capsule Kit sits somewhere between a Marketplace Capsule and a traditional Kit.
Whether Mean Girls and Clueless are one-off experiments or the start of another Sims 4 DLC format remains to be seen.
