In the latest guide, we taught players how to back up their saves and mods in preparation for game updates. However, we didn’t guide players on how to restore Sims 4 saves. Don’t worry. We’ll walk you through that as well. Here’s how you can restore them step by step.
How to Restore Your Backups
No need to hunt down instructions for your device; we have it all right here. We’ll start with Windows, then walk through the same process for Mac so every player can easily follow along. Let’s begin.
On your Windows computer, go to My Documents. Select and open the Electronic Arts folder. Click on the The Sims 4 folder and select Delete. Make sure to empty your Recycle Bin. Go to your Desktop or flash drive and rename Sims 4 Backup to The Sims 4. Right-click on the folder and select Copy. Go to My Documents and open the Electronic Arts folder. Right-click and paste the folder. Anything you had in this folder will be restored in your game.
Now, for Mac users, open Finder by clicking on the Finder icon on the Dock. Navigate to your Documents folder, right-click on the folder, and select Move to Bin to delete it. Go to your Desktop or flash drive, then click your backup folder. Rename the folder to The Sims 4. You will then press Command and C to copy the folder after selecting it. Open the Finder and locate your Documents folder. Navigate to your Electronic Arts folder and press Command and V to paste your backup folder.
How to Restore a Save File
If you have a specific save point you wish to return to, there are a few ways to restore it. It is worth mentioning that The Sims 4 automatically creates a backup of autosaves.
With Method 1, you must launch The Sims 4 and select Load Game from the main menu. In the menu, select the save you want to restore. Select the Recover Save button, then choose the save version you wish to restore. You will then select Restore and confirm your choice by selecting Yes. Easy peasy! This is the preferred method, though if you wish to do it the more complicated way, we will show you how!
Method 2 will revolve around renaming the save file. Make sure to exit The Sims 4 completely. Go to your The Sims 4 Saves folder. Locate the file with the same name as your save but with the “.ver” extension. You will then right-click the .ver file and rename it by removing the “.ver” extension. You will then launch The Sims 4 and check your Load Game menu for the save.
Restoring your Sims 4 saves is easier than it looks once you know where everything lives! With your saves restored and your folders organized, jumping back into your gameplay is easier than ever.
