Seven months ago, EA made a surprisingly big promise about the next Sims game.
In January 2026, The Sims team confirmed that it was working on a new single-player life simulation experience.
EA also said fans would hear “more news in the coming months.”
It’s now August, and we’re still waiting for that reveal.

EA Is Definitely Working on the Next Sims Game
First, this isn’t another The Sims 5 rumour.
EA directly confirmed that its teams are developing what it calls the “next evolution” of The Sims.
The company said that more than half of its global Sims development team works across The Sims 4 and this next evolution.
EA also made another important promise.
It said single-player PC and console experiences will always form part of The Sims’ future.
That was huge news after years of uncertainty about what would eventually follow The Sims 4.
No, This Isn’t Project Rene
EA also cleared up one of the biggest sources of confusion.
Project Rene is not the successor to The Sims 4.
EA now describes Rene as a social, collaborative, and mobile-first life simulation game.
The company says it exists separately from its future deep single-player life simulation experience.
So, when we talk about the next traditional Sims game, we’re talking about something else.
EA just hasn’t properly shown it yet.
EA Said More News Was Coming
This is what makes the silence increasingly interesting.
EA published its Future of The Sims update on January 9, 2026.
After confirming work on the next evolution, it ended that section with:
“More news in the coming months!”
We’re now more than seven months past that announcement.
EA never gave fans a specific reveal date. So, technically, it hasn’t missed a deadline.
However, the wording certainly suggested we would learn more during 2026.
So far, EA hasn’t announced a name, release window, or gameplay details for the new single-player experience.
The Sims Team Is Testing Several Other Games
EA hasn’t gone completely quiet about the future.
The company says it is building a family of Sims experiences across PC, console and mobile.
The Sims Labs also continues to test experimental projects.
EA has mentioned prototype names such as The Sims Labs: Life Together and The Sims Labs: Town Stories.
However, players shouldn’t automatically treat those names as upcoming releases.
EA specifically warns that Sims Labs tests can change or disappear completely. Some prototypes may never become finished games.

That makes the situation even more unusual.
We know EA has several Sims projects in development. We just don’t know much about the one traditional Sims players probably care about most.
The Sims 4 Isn’t Going Anywhere Yet
One thing seems clear: EA isn’t preparing to abandon The Sims 4.
The company still calls it a foundational Sims experience.
EA continues to release Kits, Marketplace content, and major Quality-of-Life updates for the game.
That fits EA’s wider strategy.
Rather than replacing one Sims game with another, the company wants several Sims experiences running alongside each other.
The mysterious next evolution could therefore launch alongside The Sims 4, rather than immediately replacing it.
So, When Will We See the Next Sims Game?
For now, EA isn’t saying.
We know a deep single-player Sims experience remains in development. We know it isn’t Project Rene. We also know a significant part of the Sims team works across The Sims 4 and its next evolution.
What we don’t have is the fun stuff.
No title. No screenshots. No gameplay. No release window.
EA told us in January that more news would arrive in the coming months.
As we head towards the final months of 2026, the question is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore:
Where is the next Sims game?
