The Sims 4 releases Kits!

Today brings the official reveal of “Kits” to The Sims 4! If you are familiar with downloading custom content from The Sims Resource, it’s similar to what we call a “set.”

This small format should, hopefully, allow for more targeted content to be released for what the game is lacking, and to also give us more frequent updates.

We can see how this could allow for smaller random ideas to come to fruition – such as the dirt and filth build-up from Bust The Dust. This kind of random one-off idea might miss a stuff pack (we’re looking at you, Laundry Day Stuff) but not be substantial enough to stand on its own, or require too much expansion to make into its own Stuff or Game pack.

Some kits – such as Bust The Dust – include limited objects, but instead add more gameplay. The other two starting kits appear to just be content-only.

The three kits launching for The Sims 4

There are currently three kits launching to start. This first batch consists of the Country Kitchen, Throwback Fit, and Bust The Dust. You’ll have to purchase each kit separately, though. Note that the price is $4.99 USD – with exchange rates, your local price may vary.

Along with this, a new “Kits” filter has also been added into the catalog filter with a purple cardboard box icon. Kits are not separated in the same way that Game, Stuff, and Expansion packs are. All kit items will appear under the single “Kit” filter. (For now, at least. We suspect this may change in time as more kits are released.)

Bust The Dust

The Bust The Dust kit includes 5 new vacuums, and a new gameplay aspect! (View on Origin)

Dust off the vacuum and tidy up in The Sims™ 4 Bust the Dust Kit*. Dust is piling up and spawning friendly bunnies and dastardly filth fiends in Sims’ homes. Get rid of the muck by cleaning, or settle in for a messy life. Conquer chores with new buffs and rewards for each dust level, vacuums to help fight the good fight, and aspirations related to cleanliness.

Vacuums in the Bust The Dust kit

  • Avoid Dust-ups — What starts as a film of dust builds up into piles and then takes on a life of its own! As time passes, homes go from clean to dusty to filthy if Sims don’t clean up.
  • Clean Up Your Act — Explore 2 new aspirations! Perfectly Pristine Sims won’t let a single speck of dirt remain, while Filthy and Fabulous Sims revel in allowing grime to thrive.
  • Suck It Up — Find full-size and handheld vacuums in Build Mode for your fight against the encroaching dust. Make your Sim’s chores easier and more fun. Even kids can help out.

All three of these starting kits are now available on Origin! You can read more about over on EA’s site here.
