Room Reno #32: Festive Dining Room

Welcome back to Room Reno #32 here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re helping a couple who wants to have a warm and cozy dining room for hosting holiday gatherings. Let’s meet Jonathan and Kayla!

Meet the Johnsons!

Jonathan and Kayla Johnson love to celebrate every holiday and season with their family and friends! From inviting over all the neighborhood kids for a spooktacular Halloween to throwing a huge summer barbecue every year, the Johnsons love to party. Their dining room has always been a bit of a neglected space, however–most of their biggest blowouts have been thrown outdoors. It’s getting chilly in Windenburg, and they want to have some great indoor parties this year too! Let’s see what this dining room has to offer.

The Before

This dining room is a little dark and dreary, but it has a few great aspects that will make a great entertaining space. For one, the gorgeous stained glass bay window in the room is a great asset and lets in the light while also being a piece of art on its own. The space is pretty big, which means I can close it off with a wall and make it feel just a bit more private than the open concept it has now. The tall wall height is also going to be useful for scaling up wall decorations. Let’s get to planning!

The Planning

Being a dining room, the focal point is, of course, going to be the grand table in the center of the room. I also wanted to put a fireplace in the dining area–perfect for roasting marshmallows or cooking cocktail weenies for appetizers or desserts. A bench (for extra seating) and a hutch (for display pieces) will help fill in the space along the walls. Finally, a grand Christmas tree will go in the corner–it can be swapped out with the seasons depending on the festivity at hand. Let’s build!

The After

This dining room feels like a gathering place in a winter lodge–exactly the vibe I was going for when I started building! The neutral wood tones combined with the natural aspects of garland and trees and pops of red make me want to go live in a cozy cabin. The fireplace is one of my favorite spots, especially with all the little Christmas clutter all over–especially the cocoa mug with whipped cream on it (mmmmm!). I hope the Johnsons can use this space as their indoor party area for many celebrations to come. Want to use any of this festive CC? Find it on the table below!
