Three Months Later: Has The Sims 4 Marketplace Changed Players’ Minds?

Sul sul, Simmers! It has officially been 3 months since the Marketplace was released on March 17th. When the Marketplace first launched, reviews were quite negative, with claims that it was just a cash grab by Electronic Arts. Thousands of players swore they would never touch the new feature. Now, 3 months later, do those opinions still hold true for players?

Creators Opinions On The Marketplace

A few content creators, well-known in the community, stand by their word, shaming Electronic Arts for their “predatory” actions.  SolitaSims is one of the few content creators who are very open about their dislike for the Marketplace, often posting about it on their X account. She even went as far as to make a YouTube video. This video highlights multiple issues with the Marketplace, from recycled content to predatory selling practices; she’s said it all. Many of her fans believe the same, expressing in their comments how much they despise the Marketplace.

Simandy Statement in reference to the Marketplace

Other well-known creators are Simandy, myshunosun, and SimMattically. Simandy released a statement on the feature, saying that she felt that her values did not align with Electronic Arts’. She advised others to leave the program, as it only took a simple email to withdraw. Myshunosun also released a statement at the time, saying:

First, I will not be participating in the Marketplace. Second, I personally find the Marketplace to be a rather ugly combination of enforcing microtransactions, extracting talent from The Sims creators, and perpetuating the community’s dependence on the constant stream of content.

Lastly, SimMattically was quite clear on their feelings towards the Marketplace and even made a mod that ‘hides’ the feature on the Main Menu.
