We all know cheating in real life is bad and has consequences. Fortunately, The Sims 4 isn’t real life. There’s all manner of Sims 4 cheats you can use to make your Sims life a bit — or a whole honkin’ lot — easier. From money cheats and relationship hacks to ways you can access blocked items, we’ve rounded up the best Sims 4 cheats to give you more control over your game. And best of all, these cheats work on consoles too.
Best Sims 4 Live Mode Cheats: Needs and More

The first thing to know about using Sims 4 cheats is how to enter them. Open the cheat console by pressing Control+Shift+C. After you enter a cheat, you’ll use “Enter” to execute the command. And you’ll enter testingCheats true in the console to enable cheat use. When playing on consoles, press all four shoulder buttons at the same time to open the cheat console.
First up on our list of best Sims 4 cheats is a set of basic, but incredibly useful cheats. These involve just enabling cheats and using Shift and click to interact with or manipulate multiple aspects of The Sims 4. If you’re on PS4 or Xbox One, you’ll use X+O or A+B instead.
Sims 4 Shift+Click Cheats
Shift+click a Sim to access their needs. If you choose “cheat need,” then you can automatically control their needs. The easiest one here is “make happy,” which, unsurprisingly, makes your Sim happy without any effort.
Even better, you can choose “disable need decay” to keep those needs exactly as they are. That’s good if you need or want to focus on something else for a while.
Choose “reset object” to erase changes made to the Sim’s status, e.g. changes made with other cheats. You can do the same to items in the environment if you use shift+click and pick “reset object.” Or make them clean or dirty by choosing those options instead of reset object.
If you Shift+click the ground, you can teleport your Sim to that spot. This is definitely more of a debug cheat like if your Sim gets stuck somewhere and can’t move. But it’s handy anyway if you just want to move quickly.
There’s two more handy Shift+click cheats to mention. Use it on your home’s mailbox to enable or disable need decay. And last of all, Shift+click an NPC for the option to either add them to your household without going through the friendship rigmarole or edit them in CAS mode.
Sims 4 Edit Sims Cheats
Finally for Shift+click cheats on your own Sim, if you choose “Modify in CAS,” you’ll get taken back to the CAS (Create A Sim) editor, as the name implies. There, you can edit almost everything aside from name and what the Sim inherited, so it’s better than starting over completely.
However, you can take it further. Turn testingcheats on and type cas.fulleditmode. That way you have full control over changing everything with your Sim.
Sims 4 Needs Cheats
If you want to get a bit more specific and handle individual needs, there are cheats for that too. These require going into the cheat console though.

This one isn’t so much a treat as an odd example of transmogrification. Shift+click and choose “make head.” Whatever object you use that on will attach itself to your Sim’s head.
Speaking of transformation, if you’re interested in being a Plant Sim but missed the Plant Sim challenge a few years ago, choose “Make into PlantSim” to turn into a Plant Sim.
The Seasons expansion adds a new set of traits that are more for fun and not necessarily vital to gameplay.

seasons.set_season X jumps to a specific season. 0 is summer, 1 is fall, 2 is winter, and 3 is spring. There’s also a cheat for moving the season ahead by one season too: seasons.advance_season
And then we have objects.consumables_infinite_toggle. This one’s a bit difficult to classify other than as a basic live mode cheat. As the name suggests, this cheat keeps consumable items from ever running out. For hard to get items like the cow plant potion, that’s quite a boon indeed.
Best Sims 4 Relationship Cheats

Speaking of relationships, there’s a handy set of Sims 4 relationship cheats to make the various affairs of the heart easier.
First is a set of cheats that makes starting relationships easier.
Enter relationship.introduce_sim_to_all_others (without the bold) to immediately introduce your Sim to all their neighbors. This is perfect for new playthroughs where you really just want to get started. If only there were such a cheat in real life eh?
The second is relationships.create_friends_for_sim. This one makes a new NPC that’s instantly friends with your Sim.
If you’re wanting to alter the friendship or romance levels between your Sim and their peers, this is your cheat: modifyrelationship [YourSimFirstName] [YourSimLastName] [TargetSimFirstName] [TargetSimLastName] X LTR_Friendship_Main
The X value is the number by which you alter your Sim’s relationship. So 50 raises friendship by 50 points, while -50 decreases it by 50. Swap out Friendship with Romance to do the same with your romantic interests. That said, unless you’re doing something very specific, using 100 for the value would probably be the best option.
Sims 4 Pregnancy Cheats

Say you’re already in relationships or don’t want one, and it’s time to Try for Baby. We’ve got some Sims 4 pregnancy cheats for that too.
The first thing you’ll want to do is grab your Sim’s ID number. Enter Sims.Get_Sim_ID_By_Name SimFirstName SimLastName, and then write the number down because you can’t save it in the game.
Now with your pregnant Sim’s ID, enter Pregnancy.Force_Offspring_Count IDNumber #. Just replace # with however many kids you want — twins, triplets, or however many can fit in your household.
If you don’t want to wait the short in-game gestation period, you can use Sims.Add_Buff Buff_Pregnancy_Inlabor to get the ball rolling and put your Sim in labor.
It seems there’s currently no way to reliably force a pregnancy’s outcome in terms of gender. But you can do some specific in-game actions to hopefully influence it. For girl Sims, listen to pop music and eat strawberries. For boy sims, listen to alternative music and eat wild carrots. The outcomes aren’t guaranteed, but it’s as close to a gender cheat as there is right now.
Best Sims 4 Cheats for Death

The flipside of relationships and birth is, of course, death. And there’s some Sims 4 cheats for that too. The easiest and most basic is just making your Sim immortal. The cheat for that is death.toggle [true/false], where “true” means they won’t die. If you just want to experience ghost life for a bit, use sims.add_buff Ghostly. Your Sim turns into a ghost for four in-game hours and then turns back.
Sims 4 How to Kill a Sim
If you’re playing using the Seasons expansion, you can kill your Sims in some creative ways. Use traits.[equip/remove]_trait Ghost_Overheat, to make it easier for your Sims to, surprise!, overheat. Swap overheat with “Frozen” or “Lightning” to make them more vulnerable to those deaths. “Poison” kills them with poison in the Jungle Adventure expansion.
There’s an easier and more surefire way to either help or harm your Sim using the Murphy Bed from the Tiny Living expansion. These actually kill your Sim immediately if they fall on said Sim (ouch). You can control this with traits.[equip/remove]_trait trait_Ghost_MurphyBed.
Sims 4 Romancing Death
As for why you’d want to actually kill your Sim other than because you’re feeling sadistic, it means Death comes around. And you can make friends with Death or use a cheat to marry them.
In the cheat console, type testingCheatsEnabled true. This gives you access to cheats used during debug that aren’t normally available to players. Then Control+Shift on the Reaper, and you can add them to your household. They do most things like normal, except sleeping (they hover instead). And you can romance them like a regular Sim.
When Death comes around, hold Shift and left click them, then choose “Add to Family.” Death becomes part of your household. Next, open up the editor by typing cas.fulleditmode into the cheat console and choose another Sim in the house. In the CAS Editor, though, pick the Reaper. Then you can turn them into a regular Sim adult, which opens up the options to WooHoo and Try for Baby. If you want to turn them back into the Reaper, you’ll need to re-equip the Reaper trait, with traits.equip_trait grimreaper. In that mode, though, Death can’t WooHoo or have babies, so be aware of that.
There’s some debate over what happens if another Sim dies too. Some players reported issues where no one came to collect them since the Reaper was otherwise occupied (y’know, cohabiting with you). Others have said a new Reaper spawns to take up the old one’s mantle.
Sims 4 Money Cheats

Sims 4 money cheats floated around and evolved for a long time. Subsequently, there are quite a few Sims 4 money cheats to work with, with one specific cheat that’s definitely the most useful.
The ultimate money cheat is: Money X. This one instantly gives you however many Simoleons you used in place of the X in the cheat. It’s the most versatile and lucrative by far. Stuck building a project because you need more money? Not anymore. Need a new lot? Or basically anything? Boom. The Bank of Cheat never empties, so you’ve got a never-ending supply of money.
Obviously this level of cheating takes some of the fun out of playing simulation games. So unless you’re using it for hard to attain goals or something very specific, you might not want to abuse this. It’d probably make the game feel stale pretty fast. If for whatever reason you need to remove money from your Sim’s bank account, you can use a negative value to take that amount out.
If the temptation is too great to resist, the older Sims 4 money cheats offer a more restrained way to top up your Sims’ wallets.
Rosebud gives you 1,000 Simoleons
Motherlode gives you 50,000 Simoleons
It’s a lot, but not enough to completely break the game — unless you use it constantly, of course.
You can use some cheats to lessen your fiscal burdens as well, if you’d rather owe less instead of having more. household.autopay_bills true/false means your bills get taken care of automatically. It’s not like real-life autopay. Automatically with this cheat means without you actually paying them. True turns it on, and false turns it off.
Best Sims 4 Cheats for Careers, Skills, and Aspirations

Work can be a grind in The Sims 4 just like real life. Fortunately, you’ve got a range of cheats to make the grind that much easier so you can focus on what you really want to do in the game.
Sims 4 Skill Cheats
One you’ll likely get a lot of use out of is the Sims 4 skill cheat. The basic form is stats.set_skill_level [Skill Name] X. Here, you’ll use any number from 1 to 10 instead of X, and that changes your Sim’s skill level to that number instantly. Naturally, you’d swap [Skill Name] with the actual skill. But for reference, here are all the ones you can use.

This works a bit differently for child Sims. Use Skill_Child_[Creativity/Mental/Motor/Social] for those. For Toddlers, you can use stats.set_skill_level statistic_skill_toddler_communication 5, replacing communication with whatever trait you want. Just note that Potty Training maxes out at 3.
Speaking of kids, if you’re playing with the Parenthood expansion, use stats.set_skill_level major_parenting X to alter the parenting skill.
If you’re looking to work with new traits, use traits.equip_trait TraitName to add a new trait. Change “equip” to “remove” if you need to get rid of a trait.
All this is perfect if you’re trying to make a certain build or aim for achievements and don’t want to go through all that work again. Like with the Money X cheat, though, consider using this Sims 4 skill cheat sparingly if you’re still fairly new to The Sims 4. Maxing your skills with it bypasses the actual work involved. That’s sort of the point. But it also negates any need for creating a routine or planning how to achieve your Sim’s goals.
Sims 4 Career Cheats
There’s a similar set of add cheats for careers too.
careers.add_career X instantly adds your chosen career to your Sim.
careers.promote X promotes your Sim one level in their current career. Swap promote with demote to go back one level.
careers.retire X is probably self-explanatory.
Finally, if you’re playing as a freelancer, use Shift+Click on your Sim and pick Career Gigs Picker to select your freelance gig.
School is a career for kids too. careers.promote gradeschool advances your Sim student through school, while demote instead of promote puts them back a grade instead.
Sims 4 Build Cheats

Downloading custom houses is great, of course. Sometimes, though, you just want to go crazy and break the rules while building your own. we’ve got some of best Sims 4 cheats for build mode. Like the rest of the cheats in our list, you’ll need the cheat console open.
The most useful Sims 4 build mode cheat is undoubtedly bb.moveobjects on. This one lets you move objects in ways you normally couldn’t. For example, you can move items closer together than usual. Or you can combine pieces by moving them together. Since it’s technically a debug feature, just be aware that your Sims might not interact with combined objects in the usual way.
bb.moveobjects on lets you alter item sizes too. Press 9 when you’re holding an item with this cheat enabled to make it one size bigger. Press the 0 (zero) key to make it one size smaller. Your changes stay that way once you release the item.
Another incredibly useful cheat is bb.showhiddenobjects. This one gives you access to any item in the game, including items that were part of seasonal promotions or challenges. Since many of these aren’t obtainable in any other way, this is one cheat you’ll probably want to save. Just note that some players have reported being unable to shut it off without saving and exiting the game.
Other Sims 4 Build Cheats
FreeRealEstate On makes real estate plots free, and you can sub On with Off to shut this cheat off again.
bb.enablefreebuild is another self-explanatory one. You can build anywhere you like, even if the game usually wouldn’t allow it.
bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement is probably more of a career-related cheat. It unlocks items normally gated behind career advancements and the like. So, instead of making it all the way to stage 11 of the Secret Agent career to unlock its item perks, for instance, you could just get them straight away.
Sure, cheating is technically going against the grain of a simulation game. But it’s also a great way to both learn how things work in The Sims 4 and figure out how to tailor the game to your own unique needs. Besides, the cheat console was intentionally added so why not take advantage of it?
