Room Reno #48: Earth Day Greenhouse

Welcome back to Room Reno #48 here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re helping a Sim who wants to an Earth-friendly greenhouse to grow plants in! Let’s meet her!

Meet Alison!

Alison recently moved to Newcrest and loves her new house–but she misses gardening, and the weather in Newcrest is usually too rainy for her to do it without coming back inside completely drenched, even if she wears a raincoat. She wants a greenhouse so that she can garden and stay dry at the same time! She cultivates a variety of plants, from spring flowers to fruits and veggies, so she’s looking for a few different types of planters, as well as an aesthetic selection of flowers that make the greenhouse feel colorful and bright. Let’s see what we’re working with!

The Before

The side yard of Alison’s new house has just enough space for a greenhouse, which is very lucky. While there’s a sidewalk and probably some foot traffic off to one side, it won’t be enough to disturb the greenhouse and any gardening that Alison wants to do–she likes making friends with neighbors, and the greenhouse will be enclosed so that she can have a bit of private time as well if she wants. This space has a ton of potential, so let’s get into the planning!

The Planning

This is the rough layout of the greenhouse that I was able to come up with! Starting from the back, I went with some sunflowers (my favorite flower in the game, especially when scaled up–they’re so tall and bright!). Next to them, I decided upon a palm plant, which is also a pretty good sized plant that will need a lot of space to grow. In front of those two, I decided the bushes would be a great fit. There are a few types of smaller bushes that Alison likes, so they would each get their own planter. Finally, fruits and veggies get to grow in vertical planters by the doorway, allowing them to grow without taking up too much space. Let’s get building!

The After

The greenhouse turned out amazing! On top of being a warm and humid space to help the many plants grow, it also matches the rest of Alison’s house while also having the classic ‘greenhouse’ feel. I’d never actually used the vertical planter object before, and it’s a surprisingly great tool for fitting fruits and veggies for your Sims in practically any space–I’m going to use it in a lot of tiny homes from now on so that my Sims can gain their gardening skill with all the extra skill boosts!
