Howdy Neighbor! Today we are taking a look at the new Horse Ranch Expansion Pack! This pack is full of new content, so we will try to look at all the stuff; Create a Sim, Build, Buy, and Create a Horse content that you get in this pack.

About the Horse Ranch Expansion Pack
The Horse Ranch Expansion Pack was released on July 20, 2023. This expansion is loaded with new content, including; horses, nectar making, new lot features, new events, more animals, more CAS, more build, more buy, and even more content and gameplay features! This Expansion Pack has a lot here, so let’s take a look!
Create A Horse – CAH
I have played the Sims for a long time since the original Sims. Who didn’t just love the horses in The Sims 3! I did, and I have been waiting since the dawn of Sims 4 for HORSES!!!!!! So today was a very exciting day for me as I finally got to design horses again! I am pleased to say that CAH in the Sims 4 has many options, just as you would create a dog or cat. So let’s saddle up and look at what content this pack has!
So obviously, we are starting with the things you get in the pack to Create your horses! The CAH works very similar to the existing pet system. There are a total of thirty-five horse types to start with. If you wish to style your horse from there, you can select different horse heads, hair, patterns, body types, features, and outfits.
Horse Hair
As you can see, many customization options exist to design your dream horse in the Horse Ranch Expansion Pack. I had so much fun designing horses and got a little carried away! I think I have made eleven horses so far.
Horse Features
There are many presets already in the game for customizing your horse. So the horse types are actual breeds of horses, which I am super excited about. I love Welsch Cobs and have a soft spot for Tennessee Walkers, Lipizzaners, and Clydesdales. Once you select a breed, you can change the body and head type, and if you want more customization, you can alter them as well.
Horse Painting & Stencils
There are preset horse patterns you can select from, but you can also fully customize your horse… Let’s say you want to make your horse design inspired by a My Little Pony Character… Bust onto the horse painting, and you can paint your horse however you desire! Orange horse with yellow hair? No problem!
And then there are even stencils and paintbrushes if you want to get super creative and make a unique horse! The CAH is super customizable; you can design your horse however you see fit!
Horse Outfits/Accessories
Once you finish your horse design, you can add outfits and accessories to complete the look. There is a good bit already, so you can create whatever horse you wish! YES, you can make unicorns!
I noticed a couple of saddle styles for those of you who ride horses or know about them. One appears like an English saddle, and then two Western-styled saddles.
Create A Sim – CAS
As you can clearly see, I am pretty pleased with the horses… So now, moving on to Sims. Let’s look at some Create A Sim, CAS items in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Expansion Pack. There is quite a bit here, so I will cover as much as possible in the photos!
Hairstyles
There is a good deal of hairstyles that come with this pack. Some of these hairstyles are also sized down for younger ages. In these hairstyles, there is a variety of lengths. There are some updos and some braided hairstyles in this pack. I am pretty pleased with the braids, as they are super detailed.
Clothing
Of course, with all the horse activities, your Sims will need a new wardrobe in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Expansion! And this pack delivers! Loads of denim, chaps, long coats, western tops, and more! There are loads of options to really get the ranch life aesthetic! There is also a cute little onesie for infants… and yes, it is a horse.
Shoes
Ohhh, look, shoes… as to be expected, cowboy boots!! I only see a couple pairs of cowboy boots, but there are other riding boots besides western-style boots.
Makeup
There is no new makeup in this pack… but that is reasonable due to the theme… and we have so much other stuff!
Accessories
Accessories in this pack include; gloves, bandanas, scarves, earrings, a necklace, and hats! There is quite a variety in the accessories, and the new necklace and fringe earrings are very nice.
Build Items
This pack has a lot of building content, as you must be able to create your horse ranch! I figured a change of pace would be nice, so I took screenshots of the existing builds in Chestnut Ridge to show the build and buy items. This gives you a different view of the items and how they can be used.
Ceiling Painting
FINALLY!!!! After how many years??? We can now paint our ceilings! YES. I saw this in the live stream and had to ask a co-worker for clarification. I was like, I am not dreaming, right? Like, please tell me this is actually REAL! And guess what… IT IS!
So how this works is that a floor tile can be used on the ceiling. At first, I was like huh, that’s weird. Why not use wall paint… then I looked up at my ceilings, and most of them are tiles… LOL
Floors & Walls
With the new theme of Horse Ranch being implemented in the game, it is no wonder there are many new walls and floors. Lots of wood and stone, just as you would find on a barn or ranch.
Windows, Doors, and Other Building Content
We will need barn doors with the horses coming into our games. I see quite a few new windows and doors for this pack, several catered to the horse barn and stall setup. There are also new roofs, stairs, and platforms to complete the ranch build. Overall most are western themed, which will fit the whole aesthetic nicely.
Buy Items
Alright, now to look at the buy objects! I will only spend a little time here as NumbersWoman already took loads of screenshots of these items for the Preview Blog that you can find HERE.
There are obviously a lot of skill and activity items just with the horses, dancing, and nectar building alone. I will say I do really like the dance floors. They fit the pack so nicely, and the nectar walls. Who doesn’t want a nectar wall or room? And… the small woodburning stove. LOVE IT! The wood-burning stove might be my favorite buy item in this pack.
There are loads of items to decorate your horses’ area and activities for your horses. Got to keep them busy so they don’t get bored!
Oh, and the lighting… Those chandeliers… WOW… I love them!
Debug
There are loads of debug items that I am looking at as décor and photo background material. Like the cowplant wagon wheels, horse statues, water tower, and grape plants. This expansion pack has loads and loads of debug items that will make building and decorating much nicer!
Summary
As you can see, there is ALOT of new content in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Expansion Pack! I was pretty taken back by the massive amounts of stuff! Like WOW! Simmers are going to have so much fun with all this!!
I am most pleased with the Create a Horse aspect of this portion of the expansion. But if I had to pick one item of CAS content I absolutely love, it would be the necklace pictured below. I love it! So elegant but fits the pack so well. As far as horse stuff for this pack, it is the little cowboy hats! I don’t know why, but I am stopping myself from putting them on EVERY horse!
