Simmers Just Realized Child Sims Can Secretly Write and Publish Books

She knows she just did something big.

If you’ve spent any time in The Sims 4, you know kids can get up to some pretty impressive stuff—from leveling up creativity at the activity table to becoming piano prodigies. But one feature that still surprises players: child Sims can actually write books.

A recent r/thesims4 thread brought the detail back into the spotlight, and the community had thoughts. The original post was simple: “Did you know your sim child can write a book?” Turns out, plenty of players had already discovered it, and the comment section turned into a mix of nostalgia, strategy, and jokes.

How it works in-game

Child Sims with a high Creativity skill can use a computer to “Write Children’s Book.” It takes a while, they get the “Learning to Write” moodlet, and once it’s done you can name it, publish it, and even earn royalties. The book quality depends on their skill level, so practice makes perfect—even for Sim kids. When they age up to teens, the writing skill carries over, giving them a head start on an author career.

Even child Sims can become authors—this little one is already working on their first book.

Why players love it

Legacy gameplay payoff: Like annagator679 mentioned, having a child author grow up into an actual published writer makes for really satisfying multi-generation storytelling.

Extra cash flow: ChickenConstant9855’s take was pure Sim-parent energy—if the kids can earn royalties, maybe they can cover their own violin lessons.

Small detail, big charm: Punksa_Rin’s comment about the ball of clay shows how one discovery makes players re-examine other kid objects. What else can children do that we forgot?

And of course, themushroompack88 had to drop a 1984 joke, because what’s a Sim writing a book if not a little suspicious to the in-game government?

That proud moment when your child Sim finishes their first book.

Try it yourself

If you want to raise a tiny Hemingway:

  • Get your child Sim’s Creativity skill up to at least level 4 using the activity table, dolls, or violin
  • Click a computer > Write > Children’s Book
  • Let them finish, then use the mailbox to “Publish Book” and start collecting royalties

It’s one of those small Sims 4 details that makes the game feel alive. Kids aren’t just doing homework and making messes—they can build skills that actually matter later.

So, did you know Sim children could write books? And more importantly… what did your kid name theirs?
