Welcome back to Room Reno #6 here at The Sims Resource! This week we’re working on an eclectic space–a combination office and craft room for a successful elder Sim. Let’s meet her!
Meet Marianne!
Marianne Thomas is a retired teacher who took her hobby to the next level by becoming incredibly successful on Plopsy! She knits, sews, and designs a wide variety of pieces for infants all the way to elders. She lives alone with her two cats, Mr. Business and Mittens, who love to show off the colorful sweaters she’s made for them. There’s just one problem–she’s run out of crafting space. After starting out at her kitchen table, the entire room has been overrun with her materials and receipts. Today, we’ll be making over her daughter’s old bedroom into the ultimate crafting/office space.
The Before
Marianne’s daughter moved out a few years ago, so the room is pretty sparsely decorated and is mostly used for guests. Luckily, it’s quite large and will be perfect for fitting all of her crafting materials. Color scheme wise, I knew that I wanted to keep the room feeling light and airy–nobody wants to work in a space that feels dark or dingy. I also wanted to include a sitting area and a space for Mr. Business and Mittens so that Marianne can work while her two feline friends snooze. Keeping all this in mind, it was time to plan!
The Planning
Once I started planning, I knew I wanted Marianne to have a large desk space with a computer for taking orders and checking customer messages. I also wanted to include a large storage area for her, which she was sorely lacking when she was working out of her dining room. Finally, I wanted to add a sitting area for her to have guests be able to spend time with her while she worked–knitting isn’t a task that requires 100% focus for someone so experienced, so I knew she would appreciate a little company.
The After
Here we have the finished room! I made sure to incorporate lots of bright and sunny colors. Using the Craft Room set by soloriya, I was able to turn some of Marianne’s supplies into decorations for her new workspace. I also made a kitty corner for Mr. Business and Mittens using an absolutely adorable cat canvas by Ravasheen over their condo. My personal favorite part of the room is the rocking chair corner–it feels very cozy and yet also has a great view of the rest of the room.
