Room Reno #45: Elevated Outdoor Space

Welcome back to Room Reno #45 here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re helping a couple who want to up their outdoor-entertaining game. Let’s meet them!

Meet the Gomez Family!

Deanna and Jacob recently moved to Oasis Springs, and they can’t wait to start hosting parties on their brand new patio! It almost never rains, and the lack of humidity means they can enjoy being outside without sweating too much. There’s just one problem…the patio at their new house is small, and frankly kind of depressing. They want an open and airy outdoor space that they can enjoy for years to come. Let’s see what we’re working with and transform this space!

The Before

The existing patio on the lot has a lot of potential, even though it’s pretty empty right now. By removing the fence and extending it by just one tile on the two exposed sides, the patio will feel way bigger–and provide unobstructed views of the beautiful nature surrounding the home. I want to keep the same function as the current furniture on the patio, but with more style–a grill, a sitting area, and a dining table will all make appearances in the renovation, but they’ll be much more elevated and classy. Let’s get planning!

The Planning

The rough layout for the patio is pretty simple, since I’ve divided the space into quadrants. The biggest addition to the space will be a hot tub, which will add to the entertainment as well as provide a place to relax in the chilly desert nights. An outdoor kitchen with counters and a built-in grill will give Jacob the cooking space of his dreams, all while being able to see and chat with any guests that are visiting. The dining and sitting areas are pretty self-explanatory, though I’m planning to majorly open up the entrance to the space by installing a huge sliding door in place of the current glass door. Let’s get renovating!

The After

This outdoor space is 100% somewhere I would want to hang out. It manages to have a lot going on while not feeling cramped or overwhelming, and the simple black and white color scheme keeps things simple so that the nature around the yard can really shine. My favorite area is probably the outdoor kitchen. I love how the outdoor grill fits as a built-in with the custom counters, and I also love how the open shelving on the counters allows for a ton of storage for food preparation. The hot tub looks like a great spot to chill out after a hard day’s work, too! This renovation has me dreaming of summer already.
