Room Reno #24: Basement Transformation

Welcome back to Room Reno #24 here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re helping some roommates who want to rent out their basement. Let’s meet them!

Meet Jamie, Cole, and Amy!

Jamie, Cole, and Amy are three roommates living in Britechester. They love their townhome, but the empty basement with nothing but their laundry in it is…a little scary. It’s spooky enough down there that Jamie refuses to go down alone to do her laundry. Their goal is to brighten it up and turn it into a fourth bedroom so they can rent it out to students at the nearby universities. Let’s see what we’re working with!

The Before

I can understand why Jamie is a little freaked out in this basement–I had to add lighting to the basement for it to look this bright, and it’s still a little spooky. However, the brick walls are really classic and would make for a great backdrop, and there’s enough room for a full apartment with a kitchen, bedroom, and living area, as well as a bathroom. I want to create a space for the laundry as well, since the roommates who live upstairs need to use it too. Let’s get planning!

The Planning

Dividing up a big space like the basement is both fun and challenging because there are so many possibilities for where things can go. I knew I wanted to add walls by the staircase for the bathroom and laundry machines, so both of those went on that wall. The kitchen needed to go in one of the corners for the L-shape I had in mind, so that’s why I put it in the lower left. The bedroom and living areas fell into place after that, with the bedroom going next to the bathroom and the living area sitting next to the stairs. Let’s get building!

The After

This basement turned out so cute! I went in with the idea of a mint green accent color and I’m really happy with how it that shade plays off the red of the brick walls. I put a lot of plants in this space to help bring some color and life in, but don’t worry–they’re all fake (so the lack of windows won’t be a problem). One of my favorite areas in this space is the bedroom–I went into it without a fully formed idea of what I wanted, but as I added objects and decor I really fell in love with it.
