Welcome back to Room Reno #15 here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re helping a food critic get the office of his dreams. Let’s meet his family!
Meet the Scarboroughs!
Derek and Blaine Scarborough live with their dog Bear in Brindleton Bay! Blaine works as a chef at a local restaurant, while Derek is a food critic (though he often says his favorite food is whatever Blaine makes him). They have an empty room in their house that Derek is ready to make into his office–he’s been writing in their living room for the months since they’ve moved in. Let’s see what we’re working with!
The Before
The office space is currently pretty sparse, with a few windows and a desk with a corkboard. The space is perfect for an office because of the long and skinny shape. Sometimes Derek holds meetings, so I want to make sure there’s enough space for him to meet with people without the room feeling too cramped. The window on the side wall might have to be removed, though–it may block the shelving I want to put in.
The Planning
For the room’s planning, I allotted a lot of area for the desk. This is to allow for some shelving behind the desk as well as space for the desk chair and the desk itself. I want the chairs for guests to be comfortable and made for loungey so that guests feel welcomed into Derek’s space. Finally, I want to place a large vintage record player in the back of the room–Derek has a vinyl collection and wants a place to play his records. Let’s get building!
The After
I adore how Derek’s office turned out! While some people prefer the more simple, clean aesthetic, Derek’s love of the 70’s aesthetic gave him an office that I think truly stands out in a sea of modern offices. One of my favorite parts of the room is the vintage wall art–the frames are beautiful and the prints having little aspects of orange tie it into the rest of the room. I also love the vintage coke bottle with a flower in it–it’s a small detail, but it’s just adorable.
