Room Reno #13: Cottagecore Second Floor

Welcome back to Room Reno #13 here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re helping a mom and daughter who need some extra space in their farm’s cottage. Let’s meet them!

Meet the Johnsons!

Lydia and her daughter Stacie live in Henford-on-Bagley in a small cottage that Lydia inherited from her mother. There’s just one issue: the cottage is one bedroom, and Lydia needs three–one for her, one for Stacie, and one for her elderly father who comes to visit often. Lydia has saved up for a few years in order to afford a second floor addition to the house for the new bedrooms. Let’s see what we’re working with!

The Before

This is the cottage that Lydia and Stacie started with, once they had stairs put in. The upper floor needs to have at least two more bedrooms and ideally a bathroom in order to comfortably fit three people in the home without too much cramping (or early morning bathroom arguments!). Lydia also requested some space for her indoor plants in the upstairs hallway, since she tries to keep them away from the farm animals outside (the cows love to eat them!). Let’s get into planning!

The Planning

This is the roof of the house before the addition was made. On the left side, I  put Lydia’s room and connected it to a bathroom, which also exits to the hallway. Stacie’s bedroom is on the right and is a bit longer and skinnier than her mother’s, but with plenty of room for a desk and some toys. Finally, the hallway runs along the front of the house and will have plenty of room for Lydia’s plants (and for Stacie to run around without knocking them over!). Let’s get to building!

The After

I am IN LOVE with how this renovation turned out! The second floor turned out so homey and warm while also providing Lydia and Stacie with enough space to learn and grow. One of my favorite details is the collection of farm signs in the hallway, which are vintage and so cute. I also loved using Lydia’s rainboots as decor in a few spots–fashion cam be a part of interior design, too! Overall I’m super happy with how this renovation turned out and can’t wait to have Lydia and Stacie move in.
