Room Reno #103: Fall Living Room

Welcome back to Room Reno #103 here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re helping a Sim who wants her boring living room to suit her ideal fall aesthetic. Let’s meet the Sim we’re helping!

Meet Regan!

Regan recently moved to Brindleton Bay with her dog, Boomer. She loves the autumn more than anything, and decorating her home for different seasons is one of her most favorite pastimes every season. Since she just moved, she hasn’t been able to do very much decorating on her own, and has turned to Room Reno for help! Brindleton Bay is one of the best worlds to take fall inspiration from – it’s honestly the first world I think of when I picture fall in the game, and I even had a mod to make the trees look autumnal back in the day before the Seasons expansion pack came out.

Ah, memories! Since there’s so much lovely scenery to take in, I wanted to pick some of Regan’s favorite aspects of the autumn in Brindleton Bay for inspiration. Her most favorite is the different colors of the trees and leaves, which is always an excellent choice! Her second favorite is all of the amazing pumpkins and jack o’lanterns she sees around her neighborhood. With all that in mind, let’s see what we’re working with!

The Before

This space has lots of potential! Regan’s new home has a fairly open floor plan for the living, dining, and kitchen areas, which means there are tons of possibilities for layouts or redesigns. I can see how the current layout came to be – the dining area is closest to the kitchen, which delegates the living room slash sitting area to the section of the room nearest the entryway.

I don’t think it’s a very functional space, though – for one, there are two lounge chairs sitting by the window, far away from the couch – it’s a bit of a mystery how that setup would work when entertaining guests. The space is definitely big enough to fit more chairs at the dining table as well, since it currently looks a bit empty with just four chairs. While the kitchen is visible from the living and dining rooms, it won’t be getting renovated today (but maybe someday soon ;)). Let’s get planning!

The Planning

As I said earlier, this space is open concept, so it has a ton of potential. The biggest change I plan on making is flipping the dining area and the living area. This may be a controversial decision, since the original placement had the dining table directly across from the kitchen, but I think there’s enough space for Sim routing that the new setup is just fine.

I want to place built in bookshelves all around the big window on the bumped out section of the room. It’ll add a ton of storage and also some class to the room, helping to ground it a bit before I add in all the whimsical autumn details that Regan wants. I also plan on adding a desk near the kitchen counters – Regan doesn’t have enough space to have a separate office, so having a desk out in the living room will get her out of her room while she works. Let’s get building!

The After

I absolutely love the fall vibes this renovated space has! At first I thought there may have been too many pumpkins… but a real fall lover knows that there can never be too many pumpkins! Especially in the autumn. One of my favorite areas is the console table behind the dining table – having extra storage space for special dishes is always great, and it creates a neat little display area for Regan’s records and decorative plates.

I also adore the desk area – I don’t usually get to use that Realm of Magic desk, but it fit the whimsical themes of this living room perfectly. I think the modern desk chair helps it fit in with the modern aspects of the room as well. The TV area is absolutely adorable – I love the couch from The Sims 4: Horse Ranch (and it helps that the blanket for this swatch had some perfectly autumnal colors!) and it fit really perfectly with the pumpkin pouf I placed next to it.
