Room Reno #101: Rustic Halloween Porch

Welcome back to Room Reno #101 here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re helping a Sim who wants to turn her basic porch into an ooky spooky oasis. Let’s meet the Sim we’re helping!

Meet Bailey!

This is Bailey! She and her cat Salem recently moved to Willow Creek and have an awesome old house that Bailey has plans to renovate over time. She’s done most of the interior already, but she has big plans for the exterior of the home. Right now, she finds it to be bland and pretty uninteresting, though it’s in pretty good shape.

Her favorite holiday is Halloween, so she wants to transform her home into a spooky oasis to enjoy year round. Autumn is also coming up, so she wants special decorations to be put up as well. This renovation is going to be a really delicate balance of making things spooky while also making sure that the house is still versatile enough to fit in the neighborhood for the rest of the year, spooky season or not. With all of this in mind, let’s see what we’re working with!

The Before

This house is definitely cute! I can see where Bailey’s concerns are coming from, though. She wants more outdoor space to entertain, and she definitely doesn’t love the all green aesthetic that the house is currently rocking. Repainting the house is probably the first step of this transformation, but not to black – that would be a bit too harsh of a change, and Bailey says she prefers black accents over an all black home. The porch itself is very small, so it’s going to need an expansion for the entertaining space that Bailey requested. An L shaped wraparound porch is probably the easiest way to accomplish this, and it will fit the preexisting house’s style effortlessly. With all that in mind, let’s get planning!

The Planning

This porch is going to be transformed from a straight porch to an L shape, wrapping around to the left side of the home. In the far end of the L, there will be a sitting area – likely with a couch and a few chairs. This placement is because it’s further back from the sidewalk and road, so it’s a bit more private than having it right up near the front door.

There’s going to be a large Halloween sign facing the road near the front of the house, but it’ll be placed on a table so that multiple holiday items can be swapped out each season. There’s going to be another couch near the front of the house, next to the door. Having another small couch there means that Bailey has somewhere to relax or wait for guests, along with some spooky decorations to boot. To the right of the couch, there will be a spooky tree decoration, once again swappable with other plants depending on the season and holiday.

The After

I am absolutely obsessed with how this makeover turned out! The original porch was definitely basic, and this makeover and expansion is a total departure from that. Bailey is going to be the talk of the neighborhood in just a few days when autumn begins! Let’s start with the entrance – the stairs! Adding the pumpkins going up the steps is one of my favorite rustic autumn decorating tactics, especially for homes with beautiful porches like this one! Moving onto the porch itself, I’m really happy about how nicely the spooky tree fit on the porch to the right.

I added a couch from the paranormal pack next to the door along with a glowing jack o lantern, and I think the vintage look of the couch adds a bit of the rustic feel to the area along with the evergreen classic of the pumpkin. Headed to the left, there’s the big “BOO” sign facing the street. When the sign is not in use, this table can be used to display different seasonal decor for every season. The seating area is also super cute, and I used another vintage couch along with some awesome rattan seating for guests. I would love to sit in that area and enjoy some Halloween candy, and I’m sure Bailey will too!
