The Sims 4 Players Are Refusing to Use the Marketplace

The Sims Marketplace

Who Is Using The Marketplace?

As we all know, the marketplace has sparked quite a bit of discussion within the Sims community. Whether it’s angry posts rejecting the feature or players rallying around a mod that removes it entirely. It’s clear that thousands of players do not, and will not support the marketplace.

So the question remains: Who is actually using the marketplace? A user named cjaniesunshine posted this very question to r/Sims4. The comments seem to collectively scream “nobody”! Almost every comment echoes the same sentiment: “Why would we buy what we can get for free?”. Let’s get into that.

I’m curious who is using marketplace.

The marketplace is the official in-game storefront for The Sims 4, where players can discover and purchase downloadable content created by custom content creators. Despite this, the community’s reaction has been overwhelmingly negative. Many players refuse to buy anything from the marketplace as they can get it for free. Moreover, they also feel that Electronic Arts is being greedy. Creators only get a 30% cut while Electronic Arts gets the remaining 70% of profit. Players believe this undermines the spirit of creativity and artistry that The Sims is all about.

What Players Have To Say

It’s been a resounding no across all platforms. From Steam to Reddit, thousands of users will not stand for what they see as a monetization strategy that many players question and unfairness to creators and players alike. Many of these are players who play on computer. Why would Electronic Arts release the marketplace to PC players first remains unclear to many. Many had speculated it would only be profitable on console, where players don’t have access to free custom content.

So far, though, adoption appears minimal. Players are avoiding the feature, refusing to use it entirely.

What’s your take? Are you using the marketplace, or are you siding with the majority?
