A frustrating Sims 4 marriage bug is causing married couples to suddenly lose their spouse status.
Players say entering Create-a-Sim can turn married Sims back into ordinary romantic partners.
Some have remarried the same couple several times, only for the game to remove their marriage again.
The good news is that EA has now moved the issue to “Upcoming Fix”.
That means a solution is officially on the way. EA has not confirmed which patch will include it yet.
What Is the Sims 4 Marriage Bug?
The main bug report first appeared on the official EA Forums on June 30, 2026.
The original player married two Sims and received the normal marriage buffs and certificate.
However, after entering Create-a-Sim, the game announced that the Sims had become partners.
Their marriage had disappeared.
The player remarried them. They then entered CAS again to plan outfits, and exactly the same thing happened.
They were playing without Mods or Custom Content.

Hundreds of Players Have Reported the Same Problem
The report has grown considerably since June.
It now has more than 1,200 player reactions and 450 comments on the EA Forums. Players have reported the issue on PC, Mac, PlayStation and Xbox.
Some players say the bug has affected several generations of their saves.
Others have remarried the same Sims repeatedly.
One console player reported marrying their couple three times, only for the relationship to return to partner status again.
Fresh reports are still appearing too.
One player posted this week after realising that entering CAS to change a spouse’s surname had removed their marriage. The same thing happened again when they later edited their toddler’s outfits.
Create-a-Sim Appears to Be the Trigger
The reports point strongly towards Create-a-Sim.
Players can enter CAS for something completely unrelated to the married couple.
That might include changing clothes, editing a child’s outfits or using another CAS feature.
Once they return to Live Mode, the game can downgrade the relationship from Spouse to Partner.
The Sims may still love each other. However, the game no longer treats them as married.
That can bring proposal and marriage options back into their relationship menu.
For legacy players, the problem can become especially annoying when several couples exist across one save.
EA Now Says a Fix Is Coming
This is the important update.
EA has moved the main report to Upcoming Fix.
The Sims team introduced clearer bug statuses earlier this year to show players how far reported problems have progressed.
EA says these statuses help show whether developers have acknowledged, investigated or started addressing an issue.

Reaching Upcoming Fix puts the marriage problem much further along that process.
EA has not provided a release date for the fix.
So, we should not assume it will arrive in the very next update until Maxis confirms that.
Is There a Reliable Workaround?
At the moment, avoiding Create-a-Sim appears to be the safest option for affected households.
However, that is hardly practical in The Sims 4.
Players regularly use CAS to change hairstyles, outfits and other details.
Remarrying the Sims may restore the relationship temporarily, but reports show that entering CAS again can simply remove it once more.
With EA now preparing an official solution, affected players may be better off waiting for the fix rather than planning their fourth wedding.
For now, the Sims 4 marriage bug remains active.
At least this time, Maxis has confirmed that a fix is coming.
