The next big chapter in The Sims 4 is here, so we are going to see where this adventure leads with our Adventure Awaits CAS Review. Adventure Awaits promises to take our Sims beyond their usual routines, giving them fresh places to explore, new stories to live out, and plenty of surprises along the way. Whether you play for the drama, the creativity, or just the fun of trying something different, this expansion looks set to bring something for everyone.
About this Pack
The most unique aspect of Adventure Awaits, however, is how it seamlessly incorporates an element of exploration and discovery. Sure, the base game already has a great focus on the mundane tasks and routines of day-to-day life. Adventure Awaits is all about pushing your Sims out into new locations and encounters. There’s a sense of unpredictability, of wonder, that every playthrough could go a different direction.
New secrets, new locations, new townies with new personalities and their own mysteries to unravel. For some players who enjoy more elaborate storytelling, there’s definitely content for that here. But even if you’re just playing around to see what happens, Adventure Awaits has you covered. It finds the right balance of all those various sources of variety without making them overwhelming. Adventure Awaits is a pack that lets you slow down, take your time, and see where your Sims take you.
How Many New CAS Items Are In This Expansion?
I think it’s safe to say this Expansion Pack will contain more than just a Kit. There are 157 Create A Sim items in Adventure Awaits. On average, most Expansion Packs have between 100 and 200 CAS items, which, of course, varies with the Expansion Pack theme. According to Google, City Living, for example, has 116 CAS items, and Get to Work has 211 CAS items. For reference, here are a few more: Love Struck has 152 CAS items, Businesses and Hobbies has 162 CAS items, Life and Death has 148 CAS items, and Enchanted by Nature has 181 CAS items. But will these items be brand new, or recycled from old content? Well, without further ado, let’s find out…
Clothing
I purposely avoided any pre-release news on the new content; this way, I can provide a proper first reaction to the new Adventure Awaits CAS content. Of course, this is not my preferred aesthetic style, but that aside, the overall aesthetic makes sense for the pack, at least most of it. Well, most of it.
Children & Toddlers
Kids and Toddlers got quite a few pieces of clothing, which we knew as soon as the pack was announced. There are some cute pieces, and a few pairs of shoes for the kids (we really needed shoes). All in all, nothing is completely impressive until you start looking at the hairstyles, as the clothing includes a lot of t-shirts and tank tops for the kids.
Teen – Elder
For Teen through Elder Sims, you have a lot of layered looks, activewear, water gear, sweaters, and new boots. There is quite a bit of variety, and the pack covers a lot of activity-based clothing that one would imagine at a retreat or getaway. The only complaint I have is that a lot of the shoes are harder to match with the more feminine styles. But this is a common thing we see as Simmers, so I am used to it and will just use CC Shoes to match these outfits.
Hair
With our Sims going outdoors on adventures, I was expecting updos and braided styles for hair, and I have to admit I am pleasantly surprised.
Of all the sections in this pack, I feel like the hairstyles are the biggest win. Braided styles are in demand and irl trending right now… and this pack delivered. Look at that detail for EA content. Looking at the hairstyles, it would appear as tho a community artist did them, but I have yet to read of any collaborating Artists.
There is a good bit of variety in the styles, and several to select from. I am quite happy with the hairstyles in Adventure Awaits CAS items.
Accessories
The one thing I noticed right away is that a lot of Create a Sim items are locked to skills and game events. For example, the archery gloves, your Sim will need to have level 3 archery to have those as an option. There are also some socks and other items that I already have pictured in the clothing images.
Hats
I LOVE the Jellyfish hat LOL! There are not that many hats. I really expected to see more than just a few, being that this is an Adventure pack, but I am satisfied entirely with this section, with the addition of the Jellyfish Hat. I thought I needed more, but this is the ultimate hat!
Jewlery
The leaf and wave earrings are quite nice, and the camp whistle necklace makes sense. But…… what is going on with the carabiner earring? I am so confused, like yes, carabiners are for mountain climbing, but did we really need that?
Jezi’s Final Thoughts
Being that Adventure Awaits is a pack all about life’s adventures and the great outdoors, I, like many other Simmers, was worried that we would see an Outdoor Retreat, Snowy Escape, and Jungle Adventure combo. There are, of course, similar themes, but it’s not the complete pack. Because of the overlap in the outdoor theme, we see more sweaters, jackets, vests, and outdoor hiking types.
For me personally, the Adventure Awaits CAS is not my preferred style; however, I do like a variety, so I don’t dislike it. I do like the balance between the plain CAS pieces and highly patterned swatches. There are definitely some pieces that I will use for Athletic and cold-weather outfits. My favorite overall pieces are the above hairstyle and the amazing Jellyfish hat!
