We are almost nine months into 2026, and something feels very different about Sims 4 Expansion Packs.
So far, EA has released just one new Expansion Pack this year: Royalty & Legacy.
Even more interesting, EA has not announced another Expansion Pack yet.
Instead, 2026 has brought a growing mix of Kits, Capsule Kits, Maker Packs and Marketplace content.
Is EA changing how it releases content for The Sims 4?
Royalty & Legacy Is Still the Newest Expansion Pack
EA announced The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy in January.
The pack introduced Dynasties, Nobility, Scandals and the new world of Ondarion. It remains the newest Expansion Pack listed on EA’s official store.
Directly behind it sits Adventure Awaits, which launched back in October 2025.

As of August 24, 2026, EA has not announced a second Expansion Pack for this year.
EA’s latest Sims news instead focuses on smaller releases. The newest announcement covers the upcoming Mean Girls and Clueless Capsule Kits.

2025 Looked Very Different
The slower Expansion Pack schedule stands out when we compare it with last year.
EA released three Expansion Packs during 2025.
Businesses & Hobbies arrived on March 6. It introduced Small Businesses, Pottery and Tattooing.
Enchanted by Nature followed on July 10 with Fairies, Apothecary and the world of Innisgreen.
Then Adventure Awaits launched on October 2.
That gave players a new Expansion Pack in spring, summer and autumn.
By comparison, 2026 has reached late August with only Royalty & Legacy.
But EA Hasn’t Slowed Down on Sims Content
Less Expansion Packs does not mean less Sims content overall.
In fact, EA has spent 2026 expanding the number of ways it can release content.
The company launched The Sims 4 Marketplace and Maker Program in March.
Marketplace now sells official DLC alongside packs made by approved community creators.
EA said in June that players downloaded more than 600,000 Maker Packs during the program’s first 90 days.
The company has also continued releasing Kits.
More recently, EA introduced branded Capsule releases. The Mean Girls and Clueless Capsule Kits arrive on August 27 for $3.99 each.
So, EA certainly hasn’t stopped selling new Sims content.
The type of content has changed.
Are Sims 4 Expansion Packs Becoming Less Frequent?
We don’t know yet.
EA has not announced a new release strategy for Expansion Packs.
It could still reveal another large pack for later this year.
In fact, Adventure Awaits wasn’t formally announced until September 2025. It then launched the following month.
That means there is still plenty of time for EA to surprise us with an autumn or winter release.
However, the current pattern remains unusual.
Almost nine months into 2026, players have received one Expansion Pack alongside a growing stream of smaller purchases.
Marketplace has also created a much faster content pipeline than EA had before.
Is EA Changing Its Sims 4 DLC Strategy?
That is the bigger question.
Expansion Packs require large worlds, systems, animations and gameplay features. Smaller releases can arrive much more frequently.
Marketplace also lets EA sell content created outside the traditional Maxis pack pipeline.
None of this proves EA plans to reduce Sims 4 Expansion Packs permanently.
However, 2026 already looks very different from 2025.
For now, Royalty & Legacy remains the only Expansion Pack released this year.
Whether EA has another major pack waiting for the final months of 2026 could tell us much more about where its DLC strategy is heading.
