Who wants to see the Life and Death CAS items? The new Life and Death Expansion came out today, so we are looking at the CAS Items RIGHT NOW! CAS, Create A Sim, is my favorite part of The Sims 4 game, rather than any Sims game. Therefore, we are starting our reviews in CAS. As someone who loves spooky things and dark clothing, I am excited to see all the new CAS items!
Macabre Style
During the Life and Death live streams, the stream hosts described the fashion style and theme of the Expansion Pack as Macabre. So what is Macabre? If you have never heard the word, it can sound fancy or extra when describing a style. Macabre is an adjective; it is, in basic terms, ghastly, grim, and gruesome. Pretty much anything has to do with death, ghosts, and symbols of death. Macabre in fashion generally relates to more high fashion themes than everyday clothing. Whereas everyday clothing people typically call darker clothing goth, horrorcore, or occult. They all do have differences, but they also link together very well.
How Much New CAS Items Are There?
Get ready for loads of images! The New Sims 4 Expansion Pack is LOADED with NEW CAS items! About one hundred and fifty items for CAS (Create a Sim). That is a LOT of new content. And… get excited as these designs seem like brand new meshes from what I am seeing! So let’s dive into these Life and Death CAS items!
Hairstyles
Mustache not included in Expansion
There is no shortage of hairstyles in the Life and Death CAS items. I like the multicolored options offered in the styles and many of the styles themselves. Even with the shorter styles and updos, there are a lot of details.
Feminine
You will notice quite a few styles with bangs and hair strands in this Expansion Pack. I think the above hairstyle is absolutely stunning for an updo. It looks very sophisticated but still maintains the macabre aesthetic. This hairstyle also has a two-colored option that is also lovely.
Masculine
I am very pleased with the level of detail in the masculine hairstyles. The parts, side comb, and little details. This facial hair is also new in the Life and Death Expansion Pack. It just all fits so well!
Children
Even the kids have new hairstyles, of course not as many as the Teen through Elder Sims, but they have more options. This is common for most packs unless it is centered around kids. Sometimes, depending on the theme, there are no Kids CAS items. But I am happy to report that Child Sims has two-toned hair colors!
Makeup
Normally, I am not concerned about the makeup in packs. However, the eyeshadow, if eyeliner is used with it that matches the shape… 🧑🍳💋 The lipstick, not really a fan; I tried to use it with Cosmetic’s lipliners to try to make it look better or more complete; and… Even with CC, which I absolutely adore, it was still not quite to my liking.
Accessories
This hat, top, and hairstyle are some of my favorite items from the Life and Death CAS items! I have a hat like this one that I will be totally wearing during our live stream of the Life and Death Expansion Pack!
Feminine
This Expansion Pack has loads of clothing and some accessories. For the feminine style, there is a nice choker necklace, long earrings, a mask, nails, a ring, and more! I really love that choker necklace; it is a lovely addition to our games!
Masculine
There are also some accessories for masculine styles, children, and both Sims. One accessory I found very useful was the new larger pair of gages. I also saw a pair of aesthetic-themed glasses and a hat that were quite useful for this pack!
Clothing
The new Life and Death CAS items include many clothing items. I did not take photos of everything, but I tried to get a good mix to highlight. That way, you know what you can do with this Sims 4 Expansion Pack. There are several really nice mix-and-match pieces as well as full outfits.
Feminine
Fishnets by Dissia
The macabre aesthetic theme is very consistent throughout the entire pack. Many details exist, such as lace, layers, butterflies, skulls, belts, etc. Even though the pack keeps a consistent aesthetic, there are various styles. There is everything from casual to formal and even a comfy sleep shirt. A lot of these clothing items I would personally wear. Also yes I had to add fishnets to that second outfit, they just compete the look so well!
Masculine
I wanted to highlight more masculine-styled clothing in this review, as a load of clothing is included in these new items. Just like the feminine styles, there is quite a range of more formal attire for your Sims. For the masculine styles, I really enjoy the layers and details in these looks. From the belt buckles to the buttons, it is quite lovely and does the aesthetic and theme justice.
Children
This Sims 4 Expansion Pack includes several clothing items for your Kid Sims. I was quite pleasantly surprised by the amount included. Some items, like the Raven costume, are available for multiple ages, but for the most part, the items are unique.
Shoes
Yes, we get new shoes! Several pairs, actually! The shoes include some dressy loafers, several pairs of boots, and these heeled strappy Mary Janes. I really like that a couple of the pairs of boots have swatches with both designs and no designs, giving you more options for your looks.
Final Thoughts
I am super happy with the level of detail and would use these items in my game, not just because of the theme. We all know I gravitate towards this aesthetic, and I was very skeptical as I had been living the dark fashion lifestyle for over twenty years. Yes, I know it sounds silly, but the aesthetic and overall look of the content makes or breaks the pack for me personally. The more recent Expansion Packs and other DLC Packs have very strong aesthetic themes, and I love a good one. The level of detail in the items is also improving, and it does not seem like there were as many recycled looks in this pack. I love incorporating feathers, lace, and layers in the looks and absolutely adore the fine details of the belts and buttons.
In summary, the only item I don’t see myself ever using is lipstick, which, out of about one hundred fifty items, is pretty good! I hope you enjoyed this Life and Death CAS items Review!
