Why Do Sims Refuse to Eat at the Table? The Sims 4 Dining Dilemma

Sims Not Eating at Table

In The Sims 4, it seems quite rare for a Sim to sit down at a table and eat, and it seems it is not Sims’ favorite place to eat. It’s similar to how they’ll decide to go wash their dishes in the 3rd-floor bathroom sink. A perfectly cozy dining table is only a few feet away, and they’d rather journey across their home to eat on the toilet, on a bed, or just stand by the fridge. Sims are weird!

Anywhere Will Do

Sims in The Sims 4 have always been a bit of trouble, but we love them anyway. But when it’s time to eat, and you want them to sit at the dining room table like a normal person, they refuse. We’ve seen Sims eat on the toilet, on the couch, by the fridge, or by the pool. And to players’ dismay, they keep doing it. Will the upcoming update fix this?

Why do Sims love sitting anywhere but a table? Are they just simply unruly? Do they not want to follow the rules? What goes through the mind of a disobedient Sim moments before they defy the player’s wishes? We’ll never know, sadly. There are a few reasons for their odd behavior.

Sims are social creatures. When it’s time to eat, they want to sit and chat with a fellow Sim. So they’ll plop down on the couch to chat with their housemate, even though you directed them to sit at the table. House layout is another possible reason. Players say designs like open kitchens or living spaces seem to confuse the Sims. Maybe closed-off rooms are better for our Sims.

Lastly, game mechanics and bugs. We all love The Sims 4, although it has its fair share of bugs. Some are humorous, while others make you want to power off your computer. In attempts to patch autonomy issues, other problems, like Sims not behaving properly at dinner time, can get worse. Will this behavior ever get patched? Or will this be an ongoing behavior that players will never escape?

Final Thoughts

A large update is releasing on October 27th that is said to help resolve this behavior and make eating more lifelike. I guess we will have to wait and see if our Sims’ favorite place to eat changes from the bathroom to the table after the patch.
