Room Reno #23: Boys’ Bedroom

Welcome back to Room Reno #23 here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re helping a family who needs a brand new combined room for their child and teen boys. Let’s meet them!

Meet the Shields!

Emily and Beth Shields live in Windenburg with their two sons, teenager Zack and child Shane. The family have a pretty big house with three bedrooms, but now that Emily’s mother is coming to live with them, the boys are going to have to share a room–which Shane is incredibly happy about, but Zack is less than thrilled. Let’s see the space we’re working with and how we can make both brothers happy!

The Before

The room that the boys will be sharing has tons of space for both of them. It also has plenty of big windows that let in lots of natural light. Because the room is so wide, I’m probably going to divide the space in two so that each brother has his own space in the room without using walls to divide it, since Beth wants to be able to use the full room in the future. Now that we know what we’re working with, let’s get planning!

The Planning

I decided to place the main divider of the room pretty much in the middle, just to keep the division of space fair. Shane technically has a bit less space, but since he’s smaller he doesn’t need as much for his furniture and toys. Zack requested a large TV area to hang out with his friends around, with the stipulation from Emily that he has to let Shane hang out there too. Shane just wanted a loft bed, a request that I can easily fulfill. Let’s get building!

The After

This room turned out super cozy and colorful! The boys each get their own space with their own stuff, so they can have privacy when they want or spend time together when they want. The dark wooden dividers are one of my favorite features in the room since they match the flooring and have adorable paintings on them. I also love the details of Zack’s clothes laying all over the floor–as someone who shared a bathroom with a teenage boy for many years, I can confirm that this is accurate.
