With new pack releases, the Sims team often overlooks specific issues. Some of these can be game-breaking, while others are easily fixable or can be ignored. However, what if what we thought was a bug is actually a feature?
Getaway Disappearance
For example, the Getaway function often frustrates many players because it doesn’t align with their gameplay style. User defransdim shared on r/thesims that whenever they switched households, their planned getaways completely disappeared. They attempted various workarounds to determine if mods or bugs were the cause or if the issue was unavoidable. After numerous attempts and discussions with other players who faced the same problem, they discovered that this behavior is actually a feature, not a bug. It’s surprising that the Sims team missed this, especially since many players frequently switch between households in rotational gameplay.
PSA: All Getaways permanently delete themselves whenever you switch households

Even when you schedule a getaway for a later date, it often seems to disappear. If you play one household and plan a getaway for another family far into the future, that getaway still vanishes. And if you thought presets would save your getaway, think again. Commenters in the thread have reported that the presets are not working as intended. The game does provide a warning, but let’s be honest, how many of us actually read those pop-ups? This might seem like user error, but it’s frustrating to have features introduced that disrupt gameplay for most players.
Why Is the Feature Coded That Way?
Since EA hasn’t provided any information about why they removed the feature when switching households, we can only speculate on the reasons behind this decision. One possibility is that they want to prevent save files from becoming corrupted. However, if that is the case, there should be better ways to handle this so that players can fully enjoy the gameplay offered by new packs.
After 11 years of dealing with an unstable base code, it’s not surprising that we’re beginning to see issues with save file corruption, bugs, and other problems due to the numerous expansion packs (EPs), game packs (GPs), and additional content added over time.
As dedicated Simmers, we need to report this feature to EA broadly, and hopefully, they will consider making changes, just as they did with the Dine Out expansion.
