How to Throw the Best Halloween Party in The Sims 4

If you’ve ever wished Halloween lasted a little longer, The Sims 4: Spooky Stuff is the perfect excuse to keep the pumpkins out year-round. One of my favourite parts of this pack is the Spooky Party, a full-on Halloween event where Sims get to carve pumpkins, eat questionable candy, and show off ridiculous costumes. It’s chaotic, silly, and honestly one of the most fun social events in the game when you set it up right.

I’ve thrown a few of these now, and while it’s pretty simple once you know what you’re doing, there are a few things you’ll want to prepare for ahead of time if you’re aiming for that gold medal reward (and yes, the Super Llama costume absolutely makes it worth it).

Setting the Scene

First things first – the atmosphere makes all the difference. You don’t need a mansion or a perfectly built haunted house, but a little effort goes a long way. I usually pick a main room, dim the lights, and fill it with cobwebs, pumpkins, and any creepy décor I can find in Build/Buy. The Pumpkin Carving Station is non-negotiable – it’s part of the main party goals – but I also recommend adding a bar and stereo for drinks and dancing tasks.

If you want to go all out, grab the Sugar and Spice Candy Bowl and place it somewhere obvious. Sims can actually “Ask for Treat” there, which is part of the objectives, but sometimes they get tricked instead – it’s a nice little touch that keeps the chaos going.

And if decorating isn’t your thing, you can always just search the Gallery for “Spooky Party Room.” There are tons of player-made Lots that already have everything placed for you.

Planning the Event

Once the space feels right, grab your Sim’s phone and go to Plan a Social Event. From there, pick Spooky Party and start building your guest list. I usually assign at least one extra host so more Sims can help complete goals – it makes everything move faster.

If you’ve got some spare Simoleons, hire a Caterer, Mixologist, or Entertainer. The caterer will keep snacks coming while the mixologist handles the drink tasks. You don’t need them, but it helps you focus on the more time-consuming stuff like carving pumpkins or chatting up guests.

Costumes, Carving, and Chaos

The highlight of the Spooky Party is definitely the costumes. To change outfits, click your active Sim and select Change Party Costume – no CAS trip required. The list is full of fun options like witches, astronauts, fairies, pirates, and even a few colour variations like Forest Fairy or Meadow Fairy. It’s always funny when two Sims show up dressed as the same thing and just awkwardly stand there pretending not to notice.

While everyone’s showing off their looks, make sure someone starts carving pumpkins right away. It takes longer than you’d think, and it’s your main event goal.

The Sims 4 Spooky Party – Objectives & How to Complete Them

Use this checklist during the event to push for a Gold Medal.

Goal Type Objective How to Complete
Main Primary Goal Carve Pumpkins (0/2) Place a Pumpkin Carving Station and have any Sim carve two pumpkins. Start this early – it takes the longest.
Additional Social Ask for Party Treats (0/2) Click another Sim → Ask for Treat. The Sugar & Spice Candy Bowl helps (and might trick you instead).
Additional Social Discuss Costumes (0/2) Use Friendly → Discuss Costume with two different Sims.
Additional Party Vibe Dance (0/1) Turn on the stereo and select Dance. Leaving music on lets Sims auto-complete this.
Additional Pumpkin View Carved Pumpkins (0/1) After a pumpkin is finished, click it and choose View.
Additional Social Have Sims Chatting at the Same Time (0/3) Start a group conversation or use Form Group and chat together to hit this quickly.
Additional Mischief Perform Mischief Socials (0/3) Any successful Mischief interaction (e.g., Lie About Career, Claim to Be a Criminal Mastermind) will count.
Additional Drinks Grab a Drink (0/1) Make or order a drink at the bar, or hire a Mixologist to do it for you.

The gold medal unlocks a special reward – the Super Llama Costume for your Sims – which you can reuse in future parties.

My Tips for a Gold Medal

  • Start carving early. Seriously, it eats up time.

  • Keep music playing so Sims naturally start dancing.

  • Group conversations make the social goals super easy.

  • Use multiple hosts. It’s faster and less stressful.

  • Hire a caterer if your Sims are bad cooks – burnt mac and cheese doesn’t exactly scream “festive.”

Why You Should Try It

The Spooky Party is such a good change of pace from the usual birthdays or weddings. It feels lighter, funnier, and way less predictable. You’ll end up with pumpkins everywhere, drinks spilling, and Sims doing mischief socials in ridiculous costumes – and somehow it still feels like the perfect Halloween night.

If you’re preparing for your spooky party this season, throw in some Halloween CC or Custom Decor to make it extra special. The best part? You can host it any time of year. Because in The Sims 4, spooky season never really ends.
