The Sims 4 Marketplace: Let’s Dive Into It
Only days ago, Electronic Arts announced two new “community based” in-game platforms. The Sims 4 Marketplace has sparked conversation within our community. The Marketplace will be a platform where players can buy Moola, (the decided currency to buy items in the store), and used to purchase custom content from supported creators. Some of the listed creators at this moment are Pierisim, Madlen, SixamCC, and Syboulette. All very skilled custom content creators!
The idea is very similar to The Sims 3 Store, which did and still does surprisingly well, as players still purchase items from the Store. But will this idea work in The Sims 4, where all of the DLC together is over $1,000 USD?
Maxis is Allegedly NOT Happy With The Marketplace
Reddit user, Pure-Winner9639, has once again swooped in with supposed inside info, taken from ATRL. According to them, an insider says they hope that the storefront fails! If it does, EA will have no choice but to scrap it.

Apparently, EA is planning to do scalable pricing, meaning packs with more content will cost more than one with less! Players and Maxis alike are not happy about that or the Marketplace! The comments are all against this decision, some pointing out what this means for Project Rene, or untrustworthy ways of gaining money from players.
One commenter, chickpeasaladsammich, says; “The Sims has always been an expensive franchise but new aggressive monetization for TS4 in 2026 is actually ridiculous. I want the store to fail, but I don’t trust that it will. I think it will be even worse for upcoming games, so I’m not sure they’re going to get me to migrate to Project X whatever the heck that is.”
Another, SLovesAutumn, states; “The issue I have with this is it seems we’d have to buy in-game currency to buy from the marketplace. The currency will be sold in tiered packages meaning invariably, at any given point they will be holding on to users’ unspent money. Even a few unspent pounds or dollars per user, globally, could add up to millions at a time. Which is a nice but sketchy way to pad forecasts and look even more profitable when they’re ready to sell Maxis. And it gives the company money in advance to use for whatever purposes. It’s such a dishonest business model.”
Both comments had quite a lot of upvotes, showing that so many other plays agree with these thoughts. And many points were made about console vs computer players. Most custom content is free, meaning console players have to pay for what computer players don’t. Was this an oversight by EA or do they expect most of their sales to be by console players?
What Do Our Players Think?
But we’re curious on what our players think? Do you agree with the comments? Do you believe that Maxis actually against the Marketplace? Will you be buying Moola? Let us know!
