EA buyout concerns are now coming from inside the company itself.
EA completed its $55 billion acquisition on August 4, 2026. PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners now own the company.

Now, several current EA employees have spoken about life inside the company following the takeover.
Their concerns include job security, creative freedom, and the future of EA’s studios.
Most importantly for Simmers, Maxis was specifically mentioned.
EA Employees Speak Out About the Buyout
On August 19, Game Developer published an investigation based on conversations with several current EA employees.
The workers live in the United States and Canada. They asked to remain anonymous because they feared repercussions.
Some employees questioned how EA’s new ownership could affect future projects.
One worker worried that teams may avoid pitching certain ideas. Another feared EA could reject projects that don’t match what its new owners want.
These are employee concerns. They are not evidence that EA’s owners have already censored a game or cancelled a project.
Game Developer also reports that EA leadership has repeatedly reassured staff about creative freedom.

Maxis Was Specifically Mentioned
This story has a direct connection to The Sims.
According to Game Developer, the takeover has left some EA employees in a “state of cynicism.”
The report says this feeling exists even within some of EA’s more established studios. It specifically names The Sims developer Maxis as an example.
That doesn’t mean Maxis has announced a problem.
However, it indicates that some concern exists within the company.
For Sims players, that makes the story much more relevant.
The Sims Team Says Its Values Haven’t Changed
EA has already addressed concerns surrounding the future of The Sims.
In January 2026, Maxis published a major update about the franchise.
The team said its creative control had not changed. It also reaffirmed five core values: inclusivity, choice, creativity, community, and play.

So far, EA has announced no changes to those values.
It has also announced no changes to LGBTQ+ representation or other forms of representation within The Sims.
Employees Are Also Worried About Jobs
Creative freedom isn’t the only concern.
Several employees who spoke to Game Developer also fear future layoffs.
One worker questioned how EA would treat teams or games that underperform. Others pointed towards the huge amount of debt involved in the takeover.
However, these employees did not claim to have secret information about upcoming layoffs.
One source specifically acknowledged that they had no internal information confirming cuts.
That distinction matters.
There is currently no announcement of buyout-related layoffs at Maxis.
What Does This Mean for The Sims?
Right now, players probably won’t notice any immediate difference.
EA continues to support The Sims 4. Maxis continues to develop future Sims experiences. The company also continues to publicly support the franchise’s existing values.
However, these latest EA buyout concerns add something new to the conversation.
Until now, much of the criticism has come from players, creators, and people outside EA.
Now, current EA employees are publicly discussing their own uncertainty about jobs and creative decisions.
That doesn’t prove changes are coming to The Sims.
But with Maxis specifically mentioned in the report, it’s certainly a story worth watching.
