The BEST Build/Buy Cheats and Shortcuts

Welcome back to The Sims Resource! Today we’re going through all the build/buy mode cheats and shortcuts that you need to know to make your building faster, easier, and better! Our first section is going to be cheats that require the cheat window (CTRL + Shift + C) to be used, and the second section is all shortcuts that don’t require the cheat console at all. Let’s get into the cheats!

Cheats (Require CTRL + SHIFT + C to open the cheat console before using)

bb.moveobjects on Allows for objects to be placed wherever you want by ignoring placement rules
freerealestate on Allows you to move Sims into any lot on the map for free
rosebud/motherlode Money cheats for 1,000 and 50,000 Simoleons respectively
bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement Unlocks all career reward items (including premade rooms)
bb.showhiddenobjects Opens buy debug mode which has thousands of objects for your builds
bb.showliveeditobjects Unlocks world environment objects to use in your builds. bb.showhiddenobjects must be enabled first.
bb.enablefreebuild Allows you to build and edit locked lots like the hospital, dorms, and many more.

Keyboard Shortcuts for Building (no cheat console required)

Hold Object + Alt Allows you to place an object off the grid
Shift + ] and Shift + [ Increases or decreases the size of objects
Shift + 0 and Shift + 9 Lowers or raises objects in space
CTRL + Z Undoes your last action
CTRL + Y Redoes the last action you undid
F1, F2, F3 Swaps between Live Mode, Buy Mode, and Build Mode
G Toggles the grid on and off
Hold Shift Use while placing an object to get multiples of the object without having to select it again
H Brings up the hand tool (to grab objects)
B Brings up the wall tool (to build walls)
E Shortcut for the eyedropper tool, which copies an object
K Shortcut for the sledgehammer tool, which sells objects
R Shortcut for the design tool, which recolors objects already placed
Hold CTRL (while using wall tool) Deletes walls and rooms
Hold Shift (Build Mode) toggles between the wall and room tools
Numpad and +
Cycles through color options for items (before placement)
Backspace/Delete (on Macs)
Sends object to household inventory
Delete/ fn + Delete (on Macs) Sells the object
Hold Shift + Wall/Floor Covers the entire room with selected wall or flooring
; and ‘ (Terrain Paint)
Makes brush softer/harder
Hold CTRL (Terrain Paint)
Erase any paint to the default terrain
T
Moves the camera to top-down view of the lot
L
Changes lighting to different times of day (does not change live mode time)
U
Relocates entire structure on lot (allows both moving and rotating)
