Room Reno #21: Home Chef’s Kitchen

Welcome back to Room Reno #21 here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re helping a busy mom who seriously needs a brand new kitchen. Let’s meet her!

Meet Dana (and her family)!

Meet Dana, a busy mom of six. She and her husband Devon had not one but three sets of twins–teens Nylah and Hana, children Nolan and Kelsi, and toddlers Clark and Delilah! Needless to say, Dana doesn’t have a lot of time for herself between helping the kids with homework, giving the toddlers baths, and going to scout meetings. She has one request for her room reno: an updated kitchen, because she loves to cook and try out new recipes. Let’s see what we’re working with!

The Before

Dana’s kitchen is…a lot, to say the least. From bright blue counters to kids’ stuff everywhere, you can tell the space isn’t really “hers”. Some sections of the tiles are even mismatched from a repair job Devon insisted he could do himself (Dana thanks him for trying, though). This space is also big–too big for what Dana wants, actually. She wants her kitchen to feel a little cozier (and with less space, the kids will have less opportunities to dump their stuff). Let’s clear out this room and get into planning!

The Planning

Once I took in the walls a bit, I decided on a bit of a twist between the L and U shapes that most kitchens tend to fall under–because of the entryway into the space, some counters will continue on the opposite side so that Dana has as much space as possible. A large island was an absolute must for her to be able to prepare multiple courses at once, and a dining table with seating for 8 was also necessary for her huge household. Let’s get into building!

The After

What a transformation for this room! Dana gets a crisp, white kitchen that still maintains the color and fun she adores with the accent pieces. By making the room smaller, I was able to create the cozy vibe she wanted while also still fitting in all of her essentials. I really love how the island turned out–with the kids and teens headed off to school each morning, it’s easier for them to sit there and grab breakfast rather than making a mess of the formal dining table. Love the furniture and decor used in the reno? You can find everything linked in the table!
